Driving Protection with Real Time UV Data
This campaign for suncare brands, in partnership with Cartology, transformed in-store digital screens at Woolworths across Australia into dynamic, real time public safety announcements. By integrating live UV Index data, the campaign delivered hyper localised, context aware messaging that directly influenced customer purchase decisions at the point of sale.
The success of this campaign lies in its strategic use of real time Weather API integration applied directly in the retail environment. We developed a solution to ingest the live UV Index data for each specific Woolworths store location, targeted precisely by its coordinates. The key creative mechanism was the colour changing UV index display: as the risk level escalated from low to moderate to high to extreme, the corresponding colour of the rating changed, visually reinforcing the urgency of protection and prompting customers to “Save on Sun Care” by shopping in-store.
By translating the UV data into a clear, immediate risk level displayed in real time, the campaign created an unmissable call to action right where the products are sold. This approach bridges the gap between digital data and physical retail, proving how environmental triggers can drive responsive, public minded messaging and boost sales of contextually relevant products.
